City of Allen’s Special Needs & Adapted Programs (SNAP)
The city of Allen, Texas, is committed to providing inclusive, accessible and enriching experiences for all its residents, including those adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. The city has created a Special Needs and Adapted Programming (SNAP) that is administered by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. The program offers a range of activities and services designed to enhance the quality of life for individuals with diverse abilities. The SNAP program is tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals with disabilities, ensuring they have access to activities that promote physical health, social interaction, and personal development.
The Monthly “Theme-based” SNAP Dance
Allen’s SNAP program offers a variety of year-round activities that focus on skill development and social interaction. These activities are designed to be both fun and educational, providing participants with opportunities to learn new skills, make friends, and stay active. Everyone’s Day Hab’s clients are especially fond of the monthly SNAP Dance for Adults. This dance is lots of fun with every month having a different theme for the dance. Our clients love to dress-up for the theme. This monthly event occurs on a Friday night and is a special social outlet for participants with intellectual and physical disabilities. The dance features live music, creative themes, snacks, and all the participants receive commemorative photos.
Benefits for the IDD Community
The benefits for our clients with intellectual and physical disabilities are numerous. Participating in these dances enables our clients to be more involved in their community. Attending this type of event leads to them improving their physical health, enhancing their social skills, and increasing their self-confidence. Community involved social activities like this SNAP Dance provide opportunities for your special person to interact with others from the Allen community and build lasting friendships. Developing social skills in a fun and supportive environment is a main objective of the Allen program.
